The former fiancée of a Warren County man who died after being beaten in Jackson will spend four years in prison for financial crimes against the dying man.

Susan Renee Gould, 30, 311 Fulgham Ave., pleaded guilty Monday to identity theft and credit card fraud and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick to four years in prison.

Gould was the live-in fiancée of 61-year-old Fred Jackson. He died March 9, 2012, after being in a coma for 41 days following a beating while he was working at a salvage yard in Jackson.

She set up multiple credit cards in Jackson’s name and was writing checks on his checking account while he was hospitalized, according to court records.

Jackson was beaten Jan. 29 while working at Tri-Miss Services, 416 Woodrow Wilson Drive in Jackson.

He had worked for Tri-Miss as a side job for about 20 years and worked full time at Novelty Machine Works for 30 years, family members said.

During the attack, Jackson suffered severe head trauma, and the bones in his face were shattered, police have said. A cellphone and a $500 payroll check were stolen during the attack.

A videotape showed two men in hooded jackets approach Jackson and beat him repeatedly before leaving.

Two Jackson men, Jontez Garvis, 31, and David De’Undra Thomas, 26, were arrested in February 2012 and initially charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery. The charges were upgraded to capital murder when Jackson died.

Both men were held without bail in the Hinds County Jail this morning awaiting trial.
