If time is limited and the idea of cooking a gourmet meal is on the impossible list of things to do,  think again. That was the message to more than 20 participants who were instructed in a gourmet meals in minutes workshop at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.
“I’m very excited to be doing a cooking demonstration at the cultural center,” said William Fulbright, the executive chef at the Ameristar Casino Hotel.
Fulbright, who has more than 24 years of culinary experience, shared and demonstrated how to prepare and cook two quick and easy recipes — lemon garlic salmon and chicken pesto gnocchi.
“These are dishes you can make right at home,” he said.
“It only takes 20 minutes to prepare the salmon and no more than 15 minutes to cook the chicken.”
Fulbright said he has been with Ameristar for 19 years, but has only been with the local casino for a year and a half.
This is Fulbright’s first time to demonstrate at a cooking workshop at the SCHC, but he is scheduled to teach a cajun cooking workshop from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 9. The Southern Cultural Heritage Center offers workshops throughout the year. For more information, call 601-631-2997 or email info@southernculture.org.

“From staying informed with local governmental issues to hearing the stories of its people, a hometown newspaper is vital to a community. I have felt privileged to be part of a dedicated team at The Post throughout my tenure and hope that with theirs and with local support, I will be able to continue to grow and hone in on my skills as I help share the stories in Vicksburg. When asked what I like most about my job, my answer is always ‘the people.’
