Increasing the beauty and overall comfort of the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library is a top priority for Deb Mitchell, director of the library.
That will take a little time though.
The library is currently undergoing renovations to beautify the interior, with basic work slated to begin next week. The library closed Friday. Mitchell said she expects the renovations to take about two weeks.
“We’re putting down new flooring and we’re painting, “ Mitchell said.
For the month of August, renovators have been working behind the scenes by closing each Wednesday at noon to perform some of the projects in piecemeal fashion.
Mitchell said that crews will be working around-the-clock to get the project finished as quickly as possible.
“We’re going to try to keep our downtime to a minimum,” she said.
Mitchell said she hopes the library will be re-opened Sept. 15.
“That’s our goal, but it could be longer. Our No. 1 priority is the safety of our patrons,” she said.
While the doors are closed, there will be many different renovations happening.
Crews will be installing new blue carpet, painting an almond-white color on the walls and getting more “comfortable seating,” Mitchell said.
Money for the renovations will come from a reserve fund the library holds that was collected over the previous decades.
The project is expected to cost about $450,000.
Hallette Movers, a company that specializes in library layout, is providing logistical support to move shelves without removing all of the books.
Craft-Croswell will do the floors while Ettinger Construction Company was contracted to paint the interior.
“We’re just so excited about this. It’s going to look so much better,” Mitchell said.
