The field of candidates is shaping up for four local elections as the deadline for qualifying nears.

All qualifying paperwork must be turned in by 5 p.m. Friday in the Circuit Clerk’s office in elections for District 3 and District 4 seats on the school board and special elections for circuit clerk and central district constable.

As of this morning, four people had tossed their hats into the ring for circuit clerk in a special election to replace ousted clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree. Those having filed papers are insurance agent Jan Daigre, former Vicksburg police officer Robert Donohue, interim Circuit Clerk Greg Peltz and Department of Human Services employee Arsharonda Taylor.

Palmertree was removed from office in May after it was discovered she was living in Madison County. The former circuit clerk is also subject of criminal and civil trials for her accused wrongdoing in office.

Her criminal trial is slated to begin Sept. 29.

Two people have also qualified in a special election to fill the unexpired term of the Central District Constable Randy Naylor Sr. who died Nov. 7.

Interim Constable Troy Kimble and former Warren County deputy Mario Grady have turned in qualifying papers for the office.

In the regular elections for school board only one candidate has qualified in each race.

Incumbent District 3 trustee Jim Stirgus Jr. has turned in paperwork. In District 4 Katrina Johnson, a substitue teacher, has filed.

Incumbent District 4 board member Joe Loviza had not filed as of this morning, but Loviza was gathering signatures at civic club meetings this week.

Johnson finished second to Loviza in a three-way race in 2008. Loviza had 1,414 votes; Johnson had 1,281.
