Robert Wayne McAfee

ROLLING FORK — Robert Wayne McAfee of Rolling Fork passed away Sept. 3, 2014, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. today, Sept. 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the service. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.
Mr. McAfee was born March 11, 1948, in McNairy County, Tenn. A 1967 graduate of Corinth High School, Robert attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and received B.S.E and M.E. degrees from Delta State University in 1971 and 1973, respectively.
He and his wife, Marsha, moved to Rolling Fork in 1973, where Robert served as the vocational counselor at Rolling Fork High School. They later moved to Moorhead where Robert served as a counselor at Mississippi Delta Community College.
In 1978, the family returned to Rolling Fork when Robert became a partner in Service Lumber Company. He was a valued leader there for more than 27 years before his retirement.
Robert was an active member of First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork, where he was chosen to be a lifetime deacon. In addition, he loved singing in the choir, participating in children’s musicals, teaching college and later young adult and men’s Sunday school classes as well as serving in chairmanship positions in all areas of the church.
An active contributor to the community, Robert served as treasurer of the Rotary Club, chairman of the City of Rolling Fork Zoning Board and was involved in various other civic organizations. He served as president of the Board of Trustees of Sharkey-Issaquena Academy and president of the SIA Booster Club, providing leadership enhanced by his background in education.
Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marsha Hobson McAfee of Rolling Fork; a son, Matthew McAfee (Brittney) of Starkville; and a daughter, Kathryn McAfee Cox (Scott) of Leland; three grandchildren, Reese and Sally McAfee and Hobson Cox; his mother, Dahlia McAfee; sisters, Deborah Thacker and Leasa Weathers, and a brother, Daniel McAfee ,all of Michie, Tenn.; a brother, Scott McAfee of Guys, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Eula Mae Tigner of Rolling Fork; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Hobson McAfee and his father, Willie Troy McAfee.
Memorial tributes may be given to First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork Building Fund, Sharkey-Issaquena Academy or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
