A Vicksburg man has appealed his 35-year sentence for the beating death of his girlfriend in 2011.

Lorenzo Hull, 44, was convicted of depraved heart murder Sept. 12, 2012 in Warren County Circuit Court for the December 2011, beating death of 40-year-old Angela Andrews.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick sentenced Hull, who has a prior felony conviction, as a habitual offender. State law requires habitual offenders to serve their sentences day-for-day.

During his trial, prosecutors said Hull beat Andrews unconscious and left her unattended laying face down on a mattress in the living room of a home at 10150 U.S. 61 South, Lot 20.

Warren County E-911 records show Hull called 911 at 7:30 a.m. the next morning to report Andrews was not breathing.

Andrews was found unconscious and unresponsive when deputies and paramedics arrived, according to court records.

Defense attorney John Bullard argued that Hull and Andrews were fighting when Andrews fell and injured her head on a block of concrete.

Andrews died Dec. 6, 2011, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Andrews was a disabled U.S. Army veteran who had had been living with Hull for about six or seven months before her death, family members have said.

Hull is serving his sentenc in South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Greene County, according to Mississippi Department of Corrections records.

The case is among dozens the Mississippi Appeals Court will consider during its September-October term. The court, which includes Ceola James of Vicksburg, is not hearing oral arguments in the case.

Jury finds brothers guilty

A pair of brothers was found guilty of receiving stolen property during a three-day trial in Warren County Circuit Court.

Jurors convicted brothers Timothy Wilson, 46, and Randy Wilson, 50, of receiving stolen property, Assistant District Attorney Bert Carraway said.

An eyewitness saw the Wilson brothers steal a utility trailer from Hinds County and bring it into Warren County on April 2, 2012, Carraway said.

Because the Hinds County criminal docket is backed up, the receiving stolen property case was prosecuted in Warren County, and Hinds dropped the grand larceny case, Carraway said.

Both grand larceny and receiving or possession of stolen property carry a 10-year sentence, though a defendant cannot be convicted of both stealing and receiving the same property.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick will sentence the Wilson brothers Sept. 26.

The state plans to ask for Timothy Wilson to be sentenced as a habitual offender.

Timothy Wilson was convicted in June 2011 for stealing equipment from Cook Tractor, Carraway said.

Timothy Wilson was represented by Eugene Perrier, and Randy Wilson was represented by Chris Green and McLain Walker.
