The murder trial of a Vicksburg man accused of shooting after an argument over a loud car stereo in Kings has been delayed.
Rondell Galvin, 23, 209 Overlook Drive, will stand trial in December for murder in the shooting death of William Jones Jr., 20, 280 Curry St.,
If convicted by a jury, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
Galvin had been scheduled to go to trial this week before Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick, but the defense asked for a continuance, according to court records.
Patrick moved the trial to December, though the exact date had not been set this morning.
Open dates on Patrick’s trial schedule are Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, his court administrator Melanie Sanders said.
Attorney Chokwe Antar Lumumba Jr., son of the late Jackson mayor, represents Galvin.
Since Nov. 9, 2012, Galvin has been free on $250,000 bail.
Galvin is accused of shooting Jones in the front yard of his home about 2:15 a.m. July 15, 2011. His family found Jones’ body on the lawn of the home after they heard gunshots.
About $120 and a cellphone were missing after Jones’ death, according to court documents.
Jones and Galvin had been arguing earlier in the night after Jones asked Galvin to turn down his car stereo, according to court documents.
A car registered to Galvin’s stepfather was seen on Curry St. shortly before the shooting, witnesses told police.
Following the shooting, a witness reported seeing Galvin running near his home and hiding something under a storage shed. Police found a .410-caliber Taurus five-shot revolver under the shed, according to court documents.
