Lady Eagles take first district loss

Porters Chapel Academy wasted a lead and, perhaps, a chance at the District 5-A championship on Tuesday.

Clinton Christian scored twice on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning to earn a walk-off victory over PCA, 8-7, and move into the driver’s seat in the district title race.

The teams meet again next Tuesday at Bazinsky Park. PCA (8-8, 3-1 District 5-A) will need to win by at least two runs to take the district title. PCA will also need to beat Veritas — which it did earlier this season, 15-0 — Thursday at home.

The first meeting between the teams in Clinton was a sloppy affair in which neither seemed able to hold a lead. PCA and Clinton Christian combined for 17 walks and seven errors, and traded the lead five times in four innings.

Karley Hinson and Savannah King each went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for PCA. Sabrina Embry drove in two runs, and Kaylee Hinson was 1-for-1 with an RBI, two walks and a run scored.

Warren Central 5, Richland 0

Warren Central pitcher Megan Stewart allowed just two hits, and the Lady Vikes did enough at the plate to slide past Richland.

Ashley Coley drove in two runs, Lawren Boolos scored twice, and Brooke Patterson went 2-for-3 for Warren Central, which scored three times in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead for good.

Kasy Cortezie singled, walked twice and scored a run for WC.

Warren Central will have off the rest of this week, then hosts Greenville-Weston on Tuesday in the first of six division games in a two-week span.

Riverside 11, VHS 8

Olivia Oakes hit a two-run, over-the-fence home run — the first at Vicksburg High’s new home field — and the Missy Gators went on to beat Riverside 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Vicksburg will host Clinton next Tuesday.
