Conductors with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra compare the musical pairing of Johannes Brahms and Ludwig Van Beethoven to fine wine.

“These two men were two of the greatest German composers of all time and of the 19th century,” said Crafton Beck, “and this concert will be a wonderful paring of the early works from both composers, he said.

Beck is the music director and conductor of the MSO.

“Brahms worshiped Beethoven and worshipped what he wrote,” said Beck.

The MSO is scheduled to perform each composer’s first symphonies during the annual Four-Seasons of the Arts candlelight concert on Sunday.

The concert will also include Serenade No. 2 by Brahms.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, 920 South st.

“This is a space we play in every fall and we look forward to it because the space is so special,” said Beck.

The setting is intimate and, with candlelight, is very similar to the atmosphere in which the music was first played, he said.

The concert is free, but donations are encouraged.“Of everything we do in Vicksburg, this is the concert to come to,” said Beck.
