Eileen Suzanne Mahoney

Eileen Suzanne Mahoney of Vicksburg died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at her home. She was 65.
Mrs. Mahoney graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor of science in nursing. She received her master’s degree in psychiatric nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi.
For more than 35 years, she served in the nursing profession as an employee of several hospitals, including Vicksburg Medical Center, Central Mississippi Medical Center, Mississippi State Hospital and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and was a member of the American Nurses Association.
She ran twice for the U.S. Congress on the platform of the Natural Law Party, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with all the girls and boys in her family.
She freely gave her time counseling, as she was a wonderful listener, putting her training as a nurse to good use in the family. She loved to shop for herself and others, and she also loved flowers and making bows.
Mrs. Mahoney was preceded in death by her father, Edmund Franklin Smith, and her mother, Marie Louise Johnston Smith.
Survivors include her husband, John Ashley Mahoney of Vicksburg; a son, Joshua Etheridge (Karen) of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mia Mahoney Saulter of Leland; Pamela Mahoney of Vicksburg; a brother, Fred Smith (Julie) of Starkville; a sister, Marie Moorehead (Mitch) of Madison; five grandchildren, Austin Etheridge, Baylee Etheridge, Dustyn Applewhite, Madeline Saulter, Jaden Barrett; two great-grandchildren, Addison Reigh and Allie Grace Etheridge; and her mother-in-law, Annie Mae Mahoney.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Moorehead, Larry Moorehead, Bobby Moorehead, Kevin Mahoney, Austin Etheridge and Butch George. Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Holloway and Shane Kemp.
