Phyllis Dungan Hudson

PORT GIBSON — Phyllis Dungan Hudson died suddenly and peacefully in her sleep at her home in Port Gibson, on Sept. 30, 2014, at the age of 74.
Mrs. Hudson is survived by her husband, George Acker Hudson; sons, George Acker Hudson Jr. (Cathryn) of Port Gibson and James Powel Hudson (Mary) of Carlisle; daughter, Vivian Claire Peck of Vicksburg; her sister, Serie Barnhill (Dan) of Jackson; and her uncle, Billy Dungan (Regina) of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Sarah Hudson, James Hudson, Hayden, Joseph, and Rob Quimby; and two great-grandchildren, Audrie and Hunt Quimby.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Oscar and Clara Pace Dungan, and brother Henry.
Phyllis was born in Jackson on May 6, 1940. She was a graduate of Port Gibson High School in 1957 and earned a degree from Hinds Junior College in 1959, where she played tennis, basketball, and golf.
She made her home in Port Gibson, where she was married to George Acker Hudson on February of 1962. Together they owned and operated the Piggly Wiggly Store and Hudson’s Jewelry Store until her retirement.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Port Gibson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Pope officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be at Wintergreen Cemetery following the service.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin Keaton, Jim Hynum, Jerry Bryant, Walter Cade Jr., Albert Butler, Ken McLemore, Gary Knight, and Jon Perrier. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. David Headley, Mott Headley Jr., Johnnie Baker, Wilbert Archer, Robert Gage IV, and Bobby Greenlee.
The family asks that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church or Port Gibson United Methodist Church in Port Gibson.
