Paul David Powell

Paul David Powell died Oct. 3, 2014, in Denver. He was 72.

Mr. Powell was born April 4, 1942, in Potsdam, N.Y. He was the second son born to Grace and Phillip Powell.

He served in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper, and was a member of the Masons and Wahabi Shrine in Memphis, Tenn., where he worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron.

He later moved to Vicksburg, where he retired from Entergy Grand Gulf in Port Gibson before moving to Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Douglas Elmer Powell; his grandparents; and other relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Hovland of Denver; sister, Laura Barry of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Richard Powell of Indianapolis and Donald Powell of Jackson; six children, Carl Powell of Huntingdon, Tenn., Charlotte Powell Verner of McKenzie, Tenn., Elisa Powell Burnett of Crossville, Tenn., Mark Powell of Springville, Tenn., Crystal Powell Plentovich of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Erin Powell Southard of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Golden, Col., with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

A local memorial to be 11 a.m. Nov. 1, 2014, at Hawkins United Methodist Church.
