Bowmar Elementary
• Ruth Wilkerson and Ashley Vroman spoke to 5th grade GATES students about marketing products and becoming a successful entrepreneur. Eric Lawson spoke to 6th grade GATES students about managing a successful business. Students will apply the knowledge learned from these individuals as they prepare for a GATES Bazaar.
• Report Card Night is Tuesday, October 14 at 6:00. PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday , October 16th at 5:30.

Dana Road Elementary
• Teacher of the year is Penny Register. Assistant Teacher of the Year is Mary Ann Taylor. Parent of the Year is Ava Cooley.
• Second grade classes visited the pumpkin patch at Mitchell Farms in Collins.
• Third grade classes visited the Ms. Agriculture Museum for Renewable Energy Day.
• A wacky sock hop will be held Friday for all students meeting the PBIS goal for the 1st nine weeks. Students have been taught expectations.
• Report cards will be sent home Wednesday.
Jacob’s Ladder
• The students at Jacob’s Ladder were excited to welcome Madeline Lee and Erin Ingram on Friday to practice with the Dance From the Heart girls. The girls are learning new dance moves and are looking forward to performing sometime soon.
• Also on Friday we celebrated Matthew Grogan’s birthday. His mom, Cheryl Grogan, came to the school and made a delicious lunch and dessert for us.
• On Wednesday, the students spent time preparing for our carnival on Thursday. We made cotton candy and candy apples.
Porter’s Chapel Academy
• Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Kendall Smith. Student of the month was Alyssia Kyzar. She was recognized with a certificate and treat bag. Students representing PCA in the Homecoming Court were Peyton Machen and Mercedes Lancaster. Peyton was the crown bearer and Mercedes was the flower girl. Students created cards for grandparents on Grandparents Day.
Redwood Elementary
• Morning Announcement leaders for the week were: Ethan Puckett, Chloe Lingle, Lakeyshia Ritcherson, Jessiah Wilson, and Christina Meyers.
• Redwood students and faculty offer our sincere thanks to an anonymous volunteer who donated and put up new flags for the pole in the front of our building!
• Alecia McAlister from the State Department of Health spoke to the student body about walking and bicycle safety.
• Mrs. Tyrone’s second grade class is blasting-off above the rest in our “Leaders are Readers” AR class competition with 300 points. Mrs. Hossley’s sixth graders are a close second with 240 points followed by Ms. Weeks’ sixth graders with 230. These students are reaching for their goals and are living Habit 2 – Begin with the End in Mind!
• The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 13th at 6:00 in the auditorium. Members will vote on a slate of officers and get an important Turkey Shoot update. Turkey Shoot / Fall Carnival is Saturday, November 1st. Please come and support Redwood while having a wonderful day!!
Sherman Avenue

• Sherman Avenue faculty/staff members Lorrie Strong, Ann Jenkins, Teresa McCain, and Debbie Miller were “thrown fish” for the week, in recognition of their behavior that best exemplified the FISH! Philosophies of play, make their day, and choose your attitude.
• Sherman Avenue Puppy Buck Winners for the week were: Za’Mikya Riley, Ka’Niya Jackson, Niambi Houston, Janiegha Thomas, Demarius Beamen, Tremaine Dorsey, Patrick Powell, Eric Collins.
• Sherman Avenue is hosted “Smile Day” this Friday. Students with awesome behavior were invited to participate in face painting, scooters, basketball, spa time, jumping rope, and many other fun activities. We are so proud to award good behavior.
• Sherman Avenue hosted Back to School Night, Book Fair, and the music/art show entitled Oceans of Fun! on Tuesday, October 7th at 6 p.m. We thank all family and friends that attended. Select classes performed a short musical program and had art work on display in “gallery style” for viewing. Also, parents had the opportunity to meet the SAE librarian and purchase books to use at home. Finally, parents were encouraged to go to the open classrooms and meet with teachers. All classrooms were open for this event.
Vicksburg Intermediate School
• Pledge leaders for the week were Ke’Shonda Woodson, Jalen Brasfield, Mckenzie Madison, Reese Wiley, and Matalie Dixon.
• Fourth through sixth grade students who made growth on the 2013-2014 MCT2 tests attended an off campus field trip to the Wilcox Movie Theater in the Vicksburg Mall to see “Dolphin Tales” and enjoyed an afternoon of fun provided by the VIS PTO and staff which included a cookout, waterslides, flag football, wii games, snow cones, and basketball. • Fifth grade science students of Lou Ann Fitzgerald, Teetee Braxton, NaJee Myles who had earned outstanding behavior recognition went on a field trip to the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson.

• Maurice Taylor from Vicksburg Family Development spoke with Sylvia Mayerhoff’s fifth and sixth grade Character Education classes using Project Alert (Let’s Talk About Marijuana).
Vickburg Jr. High School

Eleven students from the VJHS choir participated in the Mississippi State University Choral Colloquium. The students rehearsed and performed with renowned clinician, Dr. Earlene Rentz. During the colloquium, students and their teachers enjoyed concert performances from regional choirs including the UAB Concert Choir and the MSU Singers. The VJHS Emerald Singers are directed by Kristy Brumfield. Warren Central High School
• In preparation for homecoming on Oct. 24, the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes will build floats Monday (10/13) through Thursday (10/16) from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the band hall.
The Warren Central boys’ basketball team is raffling a Char-Broil Performance TRU-Infrared T-47D 4-Burner Gas Grill with side burner (retail value of $446.75) just in time for Christmas. Raffle tickets are $5. See Coach Robinson if you would like to purchase a ticket. The grill will be raffled Saturday, November 15, during the halftime of the WC/South Delta basketball game. You do not have to be present to win.
• Juniors and sophomores who preregistered for the PSAT will take the test in the library at 8:45 A.M. this Wednesday, Oct, 15.
