Funeral services for Susie Anna “Big Momma” Lewis will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 1511 1/2 Lane Street. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1 to 6 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m., and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
Mrs. Lewis died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at her home. She was 93.
Born in Vicksburg, she attended public schools in Vicksburg and received her cosmetology license in 1956 from Rosalie’s Beauty School. She had also worked as a midwife, caregiver, cook, and factory worker at Allen Dairy and Sutton Dairy in Vicksburg.
A member of First Baptist Church, she served as president of the choir, treasurer, vice president, and superintendent of the Sunday school, and president of the Pastor’s Aid Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Clara Leakes; 11 sisters; four brothers; one grandson; and a great-great grandson.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Morgan; daughter, Blanche G. Knight; and sister, Gertrude Harris, all of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
