YMCA basketball registration open

Registration is now open for the YMCA’s youth basketball league. The league is for children in grades 3-8, and games begin Dec. 6 at the Purks YMCA. The registration fee is $40 for YMCA members and $80 for non-members, and the deadline is Nov. 7.

Warren Central Halloween softball

Warren Central’s softball and baseball teams will play each other on Tuesday in a charity game to benefit Afton Wallace, a WC student who is battling cancer.

The game will begin at 6 p.m. at Lucy Young Field, with players on both teams wearing Halloween costumes.

Admission is $5. Children under 12 who wear a Halloween costume will get in free, and also will receive candy between innings.

Beverly O’Neal tennis mixer

The Beverly O’Neal Memorial Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The event is a recreational all-ages mixer, and is open to players of all skill levels. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

Clear Creek Ladies weekly golf report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association played an individual stroke play match. Linda McHann placed first, followed by Carol Roberson in second place and Dinah Lazor in third. Charlotte Crist had the lowest number of putts. McHann and Crist made chip-ins.

Hopson to speak at Jackson TD Club

Alcorn State football coach Jay Hopson, a Vicksburg native, will speak at the Jackson Touchdown Club’s weekly meeting Monday night at 6. The event will take place at the River Hills Club, at the intersection of Ridgewood Road and Lakeland Drive in Jackson.

MSU drop-down pitching camp

Mississippi State will host its drop-down pitching camp Dec. 13 in Starkville. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is designed to provide instruction on all aspects of drop-down pitching for players in high school and junior college. The instructors will be MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson and former major leaguers Chad Bradford and Scott Sullivan.

The cost of the one-day camp is $200. Players can sign up at hailstate.com/camps, and registration will begin at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.

Southern Miss baseball camps

Southern Miss will host its Fall Showcase baseball camp Nov. 22 at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg. The camp is for current high school and junior college players to showcase their abilities and receive instruction from current Southern Miss coaches and junior college coaches.

Registration starts at 11 a.m., and the camp at noon. The registration fee is $155 per camper.
