Victims of an early morning home invasion that ended in a shootout were being interviewed at Vicksburg Police Department this morning after an unidentified man forced a woman and a juvenile out of bed at gunpoint and tied them in in the living room of a home on Roseland Drive.
At about 5:40 a.m. today, someone in a residence in the 100 block of Roseland Drive called 911 to report the home invasion and shootout, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Four people were in the home when an unidentified man broke in and forced a mother and one of the children in the home out of bed at gunpoint, Williams said.
The two were tied up and taken to the living room of the home, Williams said.
“The suspect went outside at some point and the juvenile was able to get free and grab a gun,” Williams said.
A shootout ensued, but no one was injured, she said.
Interviews were continuing this morning at VPD, and Williams said based on the nature of the crime she did not believe the family was randomly targeted.
The home invasion is the first reported this year in Vicksburg, but two have been reported this year in Warren County.
In January, Rodriquez Lenez Lyons and Tierre Jante Hill broke into a home on Shenandoah Road and shot an elderly couple in the head while their accomplice Kenjarvis Thomas waited in a car, according to court records.
In May a 70-year-old woman was beaten during a home invasion robbery in the 3600 block of Warriors Trail.
Bryan Jason Morton of Port Gibson and Kimberly Nicole Chapman of Vicksburg have been charged with attempted murder in that home invasion.
Anyone with information about today’s home invasion is encouraged to call Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court. Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect.
