Man dies in spill from vehicle

A Vicksburg man died Friday after falling or jumping from a moving vehicle on Gibson Road, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
At about 3:30 p.m. Friday, Yancy Frank Kackley, 36, of Vicksburg died when he fell or jumped from the back seat of a 2000 Dodge Durango in the 5100 block of Gibson Road, Pace said.
Kackley was a passenger in the back seat of the Durango, and the driver of the vehicle told deputies that he opened the back door of the moving vehicle.
A memorial service for Kackley is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Vicksburg Gospel Chapel on Redbone Road.
One jailed, another hospitalized in stabbing
One man was hospitalized and another was in jail after a stabbing early Saturday in Vicksburg.
At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the victim of a stabbing called 911 to report he had been slashed across the stomach, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
The victim identified his stabber as Eric Tolliver, 31, 2310 Washington St., and Tolliver was arrested a short time later in the 700 block of Belmont St., Williams said.
Tolliver was held without bail this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
The stabbing victim was taken to River Region Medical Center where he was in the hospital’s intensive care unit, Williams said.
County woman hurt
in crash into house
A Warren County woman was injured after crashing her vehicle into a house over the weekend.
Regina Quarles, 24, 65 Buchan Drive, was injured when her southbound Ford F-150 left the roadway in the 7600 block of Halls Ferry Road, crashed into a utility box and then hit a house, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
“There was significant damage to the vehicle and a good amount of damage to the house,” Pace said.
Quarles was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Pace said.
Hospital officials said Quarles was not listed on the register of patients this morning.
Man held in robbery, pair of burglaries
A Vicksburg man wanted for armed robbery, two burglaries and a probation violation was captured Friday after a foot chase and remains in jail this morning.
Jason Lane, 28, 400 Mission 66, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Friday after a foot chase that ended at Bowmar Avenue and Washington Street, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Lane is accused of robbing a man of a cellphone at gunpoint on Oct. 8, Williams said. He is also accused of burglaries on Oct. 11 and Oct. 23, she said.
In addition, he was also wanted on a warrant from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Williams said.
Lane was held without bail this morning awaiting his initial court appearance.
Teen held in break-in
A Vicksburg teen caught breaking into a neighbor’s home was held without bail this morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Cirrus Taylor, 18, 3135 Washington St., was arrested at about 8 a.m. Saturday after being caught breaking into a home in the 3100 block of Washington Street, Williams said.
A resident who saw Taylor breaking into the home called 911, and police arrived to find him still in the home, Williams said.
Taylor was held without bail this morning awaiting his initial court appearance.
Homeless man charged in forgery
A homeless Jackson man accused of forgery in Vicksburg was held without bail this morning.
Robert Temple, 52, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. Saturday in Jackson and charged with three counts of forgery, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Temple was held this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting his initial court appearance.
Arson suspected in fire
Arson was the cause of a Sunday morning fire that damaged the building and destroyed the contents of Sun Beauty Supply, 1500 Clay St., Vicksburg fire investigator Leslie Sanders said.
She would not release further information citing the ongoing investigation into the blaze.
She said fire department units responded to the fire call about 3:21 a.m. Sunday and arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the building. Two pumpers, an aerial truck and service truck and ambulance were at the scene. An additional pumper was on the scene later Sunday morning as firefighters continued to extinguish hot spots in the building.
“The building received substantial damage, but because it is a cinderblock building, it can be repaired,” Sanders said.
Food, guns, electronics missing in burglaries
Food, guns and electronics were missing this morning following five burglaries reported over the weekend in Vicksburg.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, an air conditioner, 30 loaves of bread and an undetermined amount of lunchmeat were reported missing from Kiddie Care, 1783 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
At 11:50 a.m. Saturday, several 1-liter bottles of soda were reported missing from a home in the 1000 block of Fayette Street, Williams said.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, a Sanyo television valued at $350 was reported missing from a home in the 1300 block of Fayette Street, she said.
At 1 p.m. Sunday, a laptop computer valued at $200, a Kindle Fire tablet valued at $75, a Nook tablet valued at $150, a Sony PSP valued at $100, five PlayStation 4 games valued at $60 each, 40 PlayStation 3 games valued at $15 each, 30 Xbox 360 games valued at $15 each, and a deep fryer were reported stolen from a home in the 700 block of Cherry Street, Williams said.
At 12:15 a.m. Sunday, a Browning 7mm rifle valued at $3,000, an H&R .45-caliber rifle valued at $1,000, a .22-caliber Marlin rifle valued at $400, a Remington 7mm rifle valued at $1,000 and a 48-inch Hisense television valued at $900 were reported missing from a home in the 10 block of Stillwater Drive, Williams said.
