Fayette man held here on MDOC warrant

A Fayette man who led Vicksburg police on a foot chase was held without bail this morning on a warrant for the department of corrections.

Joseph Taylor, 33, 2241 Corban Road, Fayette, was arrested at about 5 a.m. today after leading officer Brent Stokes on a foot chase, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

The chase began when Stokes arrived to investigate a domestic disturbance at a hotel room in the 3400 block of Pemberton Square Boulevard, Williams said.

Taylor fled on foot when Stokes approached, but was captured near the hotel, Williams said.

Taylor was wanted for a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant and was expected to be picked up by Fayette police today, Williams said.

Man held in eight thefts

A Warren County man accused of a spree of thefts was held without bail this morning.

Xavier Denzell Lee, 21, 212 Manchester Drive, was arrested at about 11 a.m. Saturday and charged with burglary and seven counts of petit larceny, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Lee is accused of a burglary Oct. 5 in the 200 block of Manchester Drive and seven thefts of items, including packages left for deliver on front porches and gas cans from back yards, between Oct. 5 and Nov. 1, Pace said.

Lee was identified after two young men reported to a family member they had seen Lee coming from behind a home carrying two gas cans in the 200 block of Manchester, Pace said.

Deputies were able to locate Lee based on the description that was given.

“As they were talking to Lee in the driveway of his own home, he broke and ran from deputies. After a brief foot chase, he was apprehended in the back yard of a home in the 100 block of Hunters Crest,” Pace said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for Lee’s home and discovered items that connected him to the burglary and seven petit larcenies, Pace said.

Lee was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in justice court.
