Luther Warnock Jr.

Luther Warnock Jr. (Brigadier General retired) died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. He was 88.
Born in Anding, he was the son of the late Luther Warnock Sr. and Eva Redden Warnock.
He attended grade and high school in Satartia, graduating in 1948. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Mr. Warnock attended Southern Business College, Hinds Junior College, Mississippi College and Millsaps College. He retired from the Lower Mississippi Valley Division — Mississippi River Commission, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1982 with 36 years of service.
A native of Yazoo County, Mr. Warnock served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Mississippi National Guard in June 1986 as a brigadier general.
He served as Civil Defense director for Vicksburg-Warren County and chairman of the E-911 Commission. He was a member and past president of the Mississippi Civil Defense Association, member and past chairman of the Central Mississippi Intergovernmental Personnel Advisory Council, past chairman of the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Commission; past member of the Port Commission, member of the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, member of Hinds Junior College Advisory Council, member of the Vicksburg Community Relations Council, Positive Mental Attitude Breakfast Club; Port City Kiwanis Club, member and past commander of Veterans Foreign Wars Post No. 2572, member of American Legion Post No. 3, and a member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
He is survived by his three children, Luther W. Warnock III (Bonnie) of Hermitage, Tenn., Janie W. Robinson (Hal) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Loyd Alderman Warnock (Candice) of Camel, Pa.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Marynell Hample of Gulfport, Rita Steadman of Pearl, Martha Hambrick of Canton; one brother, Charles Warnock of Venice, Calif.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Alderman Warnock, and a brother, James A. Warnock.
A Service of Remembrance with full military honors will be 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Ivey, pastor of Highland Baptist Church officiating. Joe Loviza will give the eulogy.
Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until the service at Riles Funeral Home.
