A Vicksburg man caught with a pound of marijuana was free on bail after an early morning drug raid Friday, Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
Eddie Frierson, 55, 602 Farmer St., was arrested at a 6:25 a.m. Friday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after VPD narcotics agents raided his home.
“We were his alarm clock this morning, and hitting the snooze button didn’t work,” Armstrong said.
Inside the home, police found a large plastic bag containing about a pound of marijuana and at least a dozen smaller bags, according to evidence photos released Friday.
“It was quite obvious that he was individually packaging for his customers,” Armstrong said
In addition to the marijuana, police seized $715 in suspected drug profits — mostly in $20 bills — a small caliber pistol and a set of digital scales.
“We certainly got some of his clash flow and what he would have made off his pound of marijuana,” Armstrong said.
The arrest was the culmination of a weeks-long investigation that began after tips from community members, Armstrong said.
“I had gotten numerous complaints about drug activity at that residence,” Armstrong said.
“The neighborhood should feel safer.”
Frierson posted $10,000 bail after an appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court and was released.
Anyone who suspects drug activity in their neighborhood is encouraged to call VPD at 601-636-2511, Armstrong said. All complaints involving drug activity remain confidential, he said.
“We’re going to continue to give them the attention they deserve,” Armstrong said. “That’s a pair of handcuffs, shackles and an orange jumpsuit.”
