Anna Mae Foster

Anna Mae Foster passed away Monday, Nov.10, 2014 at Snyder Nursing Home in Salem, Va. in the presence of family and friends. She was 93.
She was a longtime resident of Vicksburg before moving to Roanoke, Va.
She was born Dec. 31, 1920 in Campti, La., to Pearl Stewart and Ellis Joseph Goodson.
She was a graduate of St. Vincent College and Academy in Shreveport, La. before entering into nursing school in Vicksburg. She was an intern at Vicksburg Infirmary.
She married Homer Howard (Bubba) Foster, Jr. of Vicksburg on May 5, 1941.
She became a business entrepreneur, having directed cafeteria operations at Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg until 1970. In 1973, she became a federal employee and continued until her retirement from the Information Technology Laboratory in 1995. Prior to her retirement, she was named the station’s Woman of the Year.
She was past president of the American Business Women’s Association and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Homer Howard (Bud) Foster, III, sisters Hazel Goodson King and Billie Clinton Holley.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Roy Foster (Linda) of Roanoke; a daughter, Betty Ann Foster DeRossette (Brian) of Madison, Ala.; a sister, Francis Clinton Case of Monroe, La., daughter-in-law, Carol Jean Katzenmeyer Fuller; 11 grandchildren, Mary Blair Foster Staas,
Mark Bryan Foster, Allison Foster Bresser, Stephen Roy Foster, Jr., Jamie Ann Foster Petrone, Collen Howard Foster, Suzanna Culkin Paul, John Lawrence Culkin, Cory Michael Culkin, Amanda DeRossette Hargrave and Daniel Paul DeRossette; 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a gifted homemaker with extraordinary culinary and sewing skills.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Noel Prendergast officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the Church.
Pallbearers will be Mark Foster, Stephen Foster, Jr., Collen Foster, John Culkin, Cory Culkin, David Paul and Daniel DeRossette.
The family would like to thank the staff of Snyder Nursing Home for all the love and care they gave to Anna Mae.
