Nell J. Ryan died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 86. 

Dr. Ryan was the daughter of Edward Patrick Ryan and Laura Amanda Ryan. She was a graduate of Carr Central High School and Millsaps College. In 1957, Dr. Ryan was the first female student to receive a doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Jean Allen and Ann Baughman, both of Houston, Texas.

A private service will be held at a later date. Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
