Leon Shorts

PORT GIBSON — Leon Shorts died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 66.

He was employed by National Plastic Co. as a press operator and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Shorts; and a son, Leon Rankins.

Survivors include his mother, Bessie N. Shorts of Lorman; a son, Dexter Lane of Southaven; a stepson, Edward Matthews of Greenville; three daughters, Latasha Shorts Johnson and Chasity Matthews, both of Lorman, and Natasha Shorts Hill of Port Gibson; a stepdaughter, Franchetta Matthews of Jackson; two brothers, Charles Shorts of Port Gibson and Percy Shorts of Lorman; two sisters, Willie Ruth Kemp of Lorman and Katherine Smith of Port Gibson; three aunts; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services were noon today, Nov. 21,2014 at New China Grove M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial was in McCaa Cemetery in Port Gibson, under the direction of Rollins Cemetery of Port Gibson.
