James Calvin Stevens Sr.

James Calvin Stevens Sr., 73, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at his home in Vicksburg surrounded by his wife and children.
James was born on May 7, 1941, to Norman and Rosa Lee Stevens in Sharkey County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Rosa Lee Stevens, and one brother, Junior Stevens.
James is survived by his wife, Alice Sanders Stevens; sons, Calvin (Claudine) of Greenwood and Billy (Renea) of Hamilton; a daughter, Susan (Tim) Stong of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Jordon, Taylor, Aubrey Grace, and Darrah; a sister, Brenda McGarrah; and nieces and nephews.
James served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Waterways Experiment Station. James was a member of Vicksburg Church of God of Prophecy, where he served as deacon for many years. He also worked in summer camps at Kamp Kumbaya in Eupora.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dot Everett, Nita Wigley and Millie Womack for their love and support. They would also like to thank Natasha Washington, Tiffany McCloud, and Edna Davis, his caregivers through his illness, and Hospice Advantage.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Stevens, Jordon Stong, Taylor Stevens, Rob Abel, Forrest Boyd, Michael Wigley, and Roger Rushing. Honorary pallbearers will be Sid Leist, Guy Italiano, Jr., Paul Cook, Sr., Ricky Dorrell, and Dr. Walter Johnston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at the Church of God of Prophecy with Doris Leist officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m., and Monday at the church from noon until the hour of the service.
