A Vicksburg man was arrested for being a convicted felon with a firearm Saturday. At 2:30 a.m., a deputy walked into a convenience store on the corner of Highway 80 and Mississippi 27 when he saw Jermaine Johnson, 36, 717 National Street, brandishing a weapon in the store. The deputy approached Johnson, who then ran after refusing to drop his weapon. After a brief standoff in the parking lot, Johnson was taken into custody for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. Johnson was also in possession of prescription drugs and marijuana, and those charges will be added after lab test confirmation. No injuries were reported. Johnson is in jail without bond pending an initial appearance in justice court Monday.
