Adult basketball league registration

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s adult men’s and women’s basketball leagues will continue until Dec. 17. Games will begin on Jan. 12.

The registration fee is $125 per team, plus an extra $10 fee for each non-city resident. Team fees will not exceed $175. Registration packets can be picked up at the Parks and Rec offices at 100 Army Navy Drive, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday.

MSU drop-down pitching camp

Mississippi State will host its drop-down pitching camp Dec. 13 in Starkville. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is designed to provide intensive instruction on all aspects of drop-down pitching for players in high school and junior college. The instructors will be MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson and former major leaguers Chad Bradford and Scott Sullivan.

The cost of the one-day camp is $200. Players can sign up at hailstate.com/camps, and registration will begin at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.

Vicksburg High track tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity track and field team will be heled Tuesday and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. All interested athletes must have a completed physical before they can try out, and should wear athletic clothing and tennis shoes. Athletes must attend both days of tryouts to be eligible for the team.

Blues Marathon needs volunteers

The Mississippi Blues Marathon, the state’s largest road race, is looking for volunteers to assist with race operations.

Volunteers are needed to assist with check-in on Jan. 9 and the race in Jackson on Jan. 10. Volunteer responsibilities include everything from assisting with registration at the Jackson Convention Center to helping direct runners around the race route.

Jackson TD Club senior awards

The Jackson Touchdown Club will present its 68th annual Most Valuable Seniors awards at its weekly meeting Monday. The awards honor the most valuable seniors at Mississippi’s 10 football-playing senior colleges, as selected by their coaching staffs.

This year’s winners are Devon Francois (Alcorn State); Greg Livingston (Belhaven); Rory Island (Delta State); Ariane McCree (Jackson State); Alex Jackson (Millsaps); Cody Prewitt (Ole Miss); Kaleb Eulls (Mississippi State); Julian Stafford (Mississippi Valley State); and Corey Acosta (Southern Miss).

The banquet is Monday at 6 p.m. at the River Hills Tennis Club, located at the intersection of Ridgewood Road and Lakeland Drive in Jackson. Admission for guests and non-members is $30. For information, visit jacksontouchdownclub.com.
