NWS confirms tornado

The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado caused damage to trees and homes Monday in Bovina.

The EF-0 storm had winds of up to 85 miles per hour and cut a path of destruction 75 yards wide and a mile and a half long, Warren County Emergency Manager John Elfer said.

The tornado touched down about 5:30 p.m. near Allen Place and Tucker Road in Bovina. Several trees were toppled, and the tornado caused minor damage to five homes, Elfer said.

No one was injured in the storm.

 

Accused drug dealer busted

A Vicksburg man accused of selling cocaine was held without bail this morning.

Derrick Chiplin, 40, 1312 Bowmar Ave., was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of selling cocaine, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Chiplin is accused of selling cocaine on Dec. 3 and Dec. 9, and his arrest was the result of an undercover investigation, William said.

 

Man held for two burglaries

A Vicksburg man accused of breaking into a pawn shop and a home was held without bail this morning.

Jacob Love, 18, 243 Sky Farm Ave., was arrested at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and charged with business burglary and residential burglary, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Love is accused of breaking into USA Pawn, 235 Warrenton Road, early Dec. 9 and stealing hunting weapons, Williams said.

He is also accused of breaking into a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Dec. 10, Williams said.

Property stolen from both homes was recovered, Williams said.

“We do expect more arrests,” Williams said.

Love was held without bail this morning awaiting his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

 

One held for drug court

A Warren County woman was held without bail this morning for drug court.

Karie Ann Calvary, 32, 230 Clark Road, was held for a drug court sanction, according to Warren County Jail records.
