Porters Chapel Academy didn’t wait long to put Rebul Academy out of its misery.

The Eagles exploded out of the gate, scoring 25 of the game’s first 28 points for an impressive 57-40 win over their district rivals.

It was a Rebul yell that could be heard all throughout District 5-A.

“We came out pretty strong there in the first half. We shot the ball well,” PCA coach Wayne Lynch said. “We got on the boards pretty well too, boxing out and getting some rebounds and put-backs. We did a great job with that.”

PCA (4-6, 2-2 District 5-A) jumped out to a commanding 25-6 lead at halftime to ice a decisive victory almost as soon as the game began. Rebul didn’t hit double-digits on the scoreboard until 4:11 remained in the third quarter, and Lynch was able to play his second string for most of the second half.

“I’m rotating some guys in and trying to get everybody some time,” he said. “They work hard every day in practice and I want to give them some time on the floor. We were able to do that and still come out with the win.”

Patrick Minor led the Eagles with 19 points and seven rebounds, while versatile guard Javontae Frye put up 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Jonathan Shoemaker paced Rebul with 11 points, while Ian Blackwell had 10.

“We’re now on a three game win streak with back-to-back district wins. We’re turning it around,” Lynch said. “We started off rocky playing some bigger schools and kind of got down a little bit, but we’ve just been working our fundamentals, getting the team chemistry there and the practicing where we want it.”

That chemistry was on display all night as PCA dominated the boards and shut out Rebul for its second straight district victory.

“We’re getting better. We’re getting better as a team. Our chemistry as a team means a lot now and we’re working hard every day,” Lynch said. “We’re turning it around now and we’re excited about that.”

PCA was unable to overcome a fast start by Rebul and fell at home to the Lady Raiders. Gracie Felker scored four points and Kaylee Hinson three in the defeat.

Caitlin Adkins led three Rebul players in double figues with 13 points. Kaley McGuffee scored 12 points and Aleaha Griffin ended the night with 11.
