A Texas fugitive who had been on the lam since 2008 was arrested Monday in northern Warren County, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Pierre Gonzales Sanchez, 26, surrendered to Pace on Monday at a parking lot in the 10000 block of Oak Ridge Road.
Sanchez was convicted of robbery in Bexar County, Texas, in 2008 and was sentenced to probation but never showed up for court, Pace said.
The U.S. Marshals Office from Alexandria, La., called the Warren County Sheriff’s Office on Monday to report they were tracking a fugitive believed to be in Warren County.
“It appears that for at least some time had been staying with relatives in the Alexandria, La., area,” Pace said.
Sanchez left Louisiana and came to Warren County with an acquaintance, Pace said. Marshals were able to call Sanchez on the phone, and he agreed to surrender, Pace said.
Sanchez was held without bail Tuesday in the Warren County Jail awaiting extradition to Texas.
“We expect them to be here to pick him up within the next few days,” Pace said.
Two hurt in Freetown Road crash
Two Warren County teens were injured when the car they were riding in hit a bridge abutment on Freetown Road on Monday.
Just before 9 p.m. Monday, a westbound 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Chase Hanes, 19, 102 Cobblestone Drive, struck a bridge abutment in the 3000 block of Freetown road, north of Grayline Drive, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
“The driver stated that several deer ran in front of him just prior to the accident,” Pace said
The Camry tumbled off the end of the bridge and fell on its side into a creek below, Pace said.
Vicksburg and county volunteer firefighters freed Hanes and his passenger, Joshua Lieberman, 16, 104 Pebble Beach.
Hanes was taken by Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance to University Medical Center in Jackson. His condition was unavailable Tuesday morning.
Joshua was taken to River Region Medical Center where his condition was unavailable Tuesday morning.
