Funeral services for Otha V. Jones will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Vicksburg Auditorium with Pastor Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Bovina under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones died Jan. 3, 2015, at his home. He was 77.
He was a member of the St. Paul M. B. Church. He worked several jobs in Warren County before reaching his calling in 1972 with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, where he served first as a road deputy then chief deputy. He was briefly interim sheriff after Sheriff Paul L. Barrett’s retirement. He received his basic training in law enforcement at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in November 1972. He retired after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Fannie Jones; his brothers, Henry and Allen Jones; and his wife, Mary Ella Devine Jones.
Survivors include three sisters, Betty Harper of Jackson, and Doris Jones and Ethel Jones, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
