Vikings can’t get past Lewisburg

Scoring chances were in plentiful supply for Warren Central on Saturday.
Scoring was not.
The Vikings peppered Lewisburg’s goal keepers with 13 shots on goal and 16 more that sailed either high or wide. The only time they scored, though, was on Braylen Greer’s penalty kick early in the game. That allowed Lewisburg to escape with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Lewisburg’s two goals both came in the first half, by Bohlt Hamrick in the 19th minute and Jake Tyrone in the 36th.
“We couldn’t put one in. We just weren’t in as good of shape as the other team. They seemed to beat us to the ball every time,” Warren Central coach Greg Head said.
The Vikings (12-5-2) certainly had plenty of chances Saturday. Lewisburg keeper Benji Galbraith made seven saves in the first half, then sophomore Mitchell Stonehouse made six in the second.
With less than two minutes left, WC’s Nick Wright took a free kick just outside the box. It was deflected, and the ball eventually went out of bounds. The ensuing throw-in led to a shot that Stonehouse stopped to end WC’s last chance.
(G) Lewisburg 3, WC 0
Raine Frazier had a goal and an assist, and Harlie Ray and Jess Geraldson each scored a goal to lead Lewisburg (16-1) past Warren Central (6-12).
(G) Pearl 4, St. Al 1
Nikki Roa scored four goals to lead Pearl (8-6-3) past St. Aloysius (7-7-1).
St. Al had nearly a dozen scoring chances in the second half, but only managed one goal by Sara McDaniel in the 53rd minute.
(G) Vicksburg 4, Newton County 1
Mikayla Banks scored three times and Haleigh Erwin had a goal and an assist as the Vicksburg Missy Gators (9-2) rallied in the second half to beat Newton County.
All of Vicksburg’s goals came in the second half. Banks scored twice in the first 10 minutes to give VHS the lead, then Erwin made it 3-1 in the 60th minute. Banks got her hat trick in the waning minutes of the game to seal it.
