Rev. Oliver Clarence Ladnier

The Rev. Oliver Clarence Ladnier passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at his home in Vicksburg.  He was 86.

He was born in Pascagoula on Dec. 4, 1928, to Oliver Benton Ladnier and Hannah A. Couch Ladnier.  He was a graduate of Pascagoula High School, Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He was on the staff at Calvary Baptist in Jackson from 1951-1957, and his pastorates included Carmel Baptist in Monticello, from 1957-1960; North McComb Baptist in McComb from 1960-1970; and First Baptist in Magee from 1970-1995; at which point he retired.

He also served as interim pastor at White Oak Baptist in Smith County, Bovina Baptist in Warren County, Goodrum Baptist in Vicksburg, Woodlawn Baptist in Vicksburg, Eagle Lake Baptist in Eagle Lake, Wayside Baptist in Vicksburg, Oakland Baptist in Vicksburg, and Grace Baptist in Vicksburg.

He held many association and state positions including moderator for Pike, Simpson, and Warren Associations, clerk for Lawrence, Pike, and Simpson Associations, convention board member from Pike and Simpson Associations, secretary for MBCB Executive Committee, vice president of the Mississippi Baptist Foundation, specialist for the Mississippi Baptist Brotherhood Department, promotional speaker for the Baptist Record, program chairman for the Mississippi Baptist Annual Meeting, and member of the Feasibility Study Committee for the Gulfshore Baptist Assembly Building Project.

He was a member of First Baptist in Vicksburg.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tom McGraw.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Dossett, of Mobile, Ala., whom he married on Nov. 21, 1948; his daughters, Linda (Dan) Johnson and Brenda (Chris) McNeese; sisters, Janet Hill and Vicki Broadus; aunt, Bonnie Barton; grandchildren,  Danellen (Brian) DeHuff,  Zach (Jessica) Johnson, and Beau (Rebecca) Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Johnson DeHuff, Knox DeHuff, Rivers DeHuff, Delta DeHuff, Cameron Johnson, Hayden Johnson, Amelia-Kate Johnson, and Graham Johnson.

Funeral services will be at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at 2 p.m.

Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service with Rev. Jim Hess officiating.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point.

There will be a visitation at O’Bryant-O-Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula from 1p.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Hollingsworth, Gavin Hollingsworth, Garrett Hollingsworth, Jacob Northrop, Landan Northrop, and Blayze Broadus.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dr. Cecil Knox Sunday school class and deacons of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg, and the Mission Construction Team of First Baptist Church of Magee.
