Warren Central had more shots and more chances, but not more goals, and limped back home Tuesday with no more games to play this season.

Carolyn Rials and Jalah Carter each scored a goal and Desoto Central eliminated the Lady Vikes from the Class 6A playoffs with a 2-0 victory in a first-round matchup.

Warren Central outshot Desoto 22-14, but couldn’t punch in a goal. Goal keeper Makenzie Ellis made a number of sprawling saves to keep the Lady Vikes at bay.

“We had opportunities that we should’ve finished, but at the same time we made wonderful shots on the goal and the keeper just made terrific saves,” WC coach Viktoria Case said.

Warren Central’s goal keeper tandem of Brooke Patterson and Layken Stockstill were nearly equal to the task. Patterson made eight saves in the first half, but gave up both goals. Stockstill made four saves in the second half.

Matt Faust scored in the 57th minute and Juan Lopez in the 67th as Southaven ousted Warren Central from the Class 6A boys playoffs on Tuesday.

Brian McHan made seven saves for Warren Central (12-6-3), which outshot Southaven 9-8 but couldn’t put one in the net. Southaven keeper Matt Klinck made nine saves.

Warren Central has not been past the first round of the playoffs since 2010, when it lost in the second round to Northwest Rankin.
