A Tallulah man accused of trying to shoot a Vicksburg man in the face at close range before pistol-whipping the man and a teen was in jail Thursday.
Christopher Coleman, 312 N. Elm St., Tallulah was arrested Tuesday in Madison Parish and charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
He waived extradition and was returned to Warren County Wednesday where bail was set at $250,000, she said.
Coleman is accused of pulling the trigger of a pistol pointed at the face of 25-year-old Willie Carter Jr., Williams said. After the pistol misfired, the gun was used to beat carter and his 14-year-old nephew at Whispering Woods Apartments, 780 U.S. 61 North. The apartments were previously known as Confederate Ridge.
Carter and his teen nephew were taken to River Region Medical Center where they were treated and released, Williams said.
Coleman’s brother, Shannandor Coleman, 29, 780 U.S. 61 North, surrendered to police Jan. 28 on a warrant for two counts of aggravated assault in the beating. He posted $30,000 bail and was released from the Warren County Jail.
The pistol-whipping and attempted murder stemmed from a domestic dispute over Carter’s sister involving him, the Coleman brothers and three others who have not been identified, Williams has said. The five men including the Coleman brothers fled to Louisiana where they were pursued by the Delta Marshal’s Office, she said.
The vehicle wrecked, and all five men fled on foot, Williams said.
