PCA punches ticket with win Saturday

Sophomore Javontae Frye lit up the scoreboard and the stat sheet Saturday as Porters Chapel Academy clinched  a berth in the south state championship with a 54-43 win over Clinton Christian Academy. PCA’s opponent in the game is still to be determined.

Frye notched a game-high 35 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the win. Shelton Miller scored eight points and hauled in 10 rebounds, while Eric Jackson scored seven points and also brought down 10 boards.

“We played very well today. We executed on offense and played great defensively,” Porters Chapel coach Wayne Lynch said. “We took the lead early in the second quarter and never lost it.”

Clinton Christian pulled within three points once, but PCA extended its lead and kept Clinton Christian out of the game for good. The Eagles knocked down eight of their 11 free throws to ice the game.
