Dana Road
• Pennies for Patients to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will begin February 9th and will continue through February 27th.  Students are encouraged to bring in pennies.  Weekly activities are planned to benefit this effort. Please check your child’s folder for more information.
• There will be a Leader in Me parent training Thursday, February 12th at 6:00.  Students attending with their parents will receive a free book and 10 jaguar paws.
• The Valentine’s Dance will be held Friday, February 13th.
• The 2nd and 3rd grade music classes of Eleana Davis presented a Valentine Program.
• All classes will Beauty and the Beast at Warren Central High School on Wednesday, February 11th.

Jacob’s Ladder
• On Thursday, the students at Jacob’s Ladder had a fun time tie-dyeing shirts, pillowcases, and socks. We were excited to choose colors and designs. We have been wearing our shirts to school this week and were thrilled with how the projects turned out.
• Our monthly trip to eat out took us to El Sombrero on Friday. We were glad to have Mrs. Linda Bryant and Mrs. Sandra Lauderdale along to eat with us. We enjoyed eating Mexican and had a very good experience at the restaurant.
• On Tuesday, Mrs. Sharon Andrews and Mrs. Liz Taylor worked with the students on volleyball skills at the YMCA.  We had a fun time working on our serving and volleying skills.
• Student of the week is Beth Ann Sullender.
• February birthdays are Will Conway and Robin Bryant.

South Park Elementary
• Kindergarten has been reading about the Three Little Bears and learning vocabulary from the story. We ate porridge also, I enjoyed it.  A special thank you to all parents who have been helping with AR and Math Facts in a Flash in our classrooms. We have been learning about number to 100 in math.
• 6th grade pledge helpers for the week were Skylar Benard, Durand Christian, Taylor Coffee, Gabrielle Dent, Jerry Evans, Hope Hudson, Macala Merrill, J’Vontae Noel, Samantha Smith, Stacy Washington, Keon Williams, and Travis Williams.

• The VHS Choral Department will present their 2nd Annual Gospel Concert on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 6:30 p.m., in the school auditorium.  Admission is $3.
• The PTO will be selling U-laces as a fundraiser during students’ lunch period on Monday and Tuesday.  A table be set up in the hall near the cafeteria.
• The VHS Family congratulates former VHS student and Super Bowl Champ Malcolm Butler on a fantastic performance with the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
• The VHS Key Club members are in the middle of their Vicksburg Kiwanis Club Chili Feast ticket drive.  The chili will be prepared by Kiwanis and Key Club volunteers on Friday, Feb. 13.  All proceeds will go to the Vicksburg Kiwanis Youth Fund.  Last year this program provided 13 scholarships; eleven of them went to VHS graduates.  Please help our students help themselves.
• The clothing drive sponsored by the VHS chapter of the National Honor Society will continue until Friday, Feb. 13.  All items can be dropped off in an English teacher’s classroom.
• Vicksburg High School will celebrate Black History Month 2015 with a variety of activities during the month of February.
• Black History Month Poster Contest (February 1-18, 2015 Poster Theme:  “Celebrating a Century of Black life, History and Culture:  1915-2015.”  Sponsored by the History Club.  Opened to VHS students.
Poster Entries deadline is Feb. 13.  Posters will be on display in the Career Center.
Weekly presentation of “This Week/Day in Black History.”  Presented during announcement time each Wednesday.
Power Point Presentation/Book Exhibit on display in the VHS Library throughout the month of February.
Celebration Program with Special Guest Speaker Mrs. Bobby Bingham Morrow.  Theme:  “Celebrating the Legacies of the Glorious Past,  the Inspiring Present, and the Promising Future.”  Feb. 26@10a.m,followed by a  Luncheon honoring our invited guests and program participants.
