OXFORD — Ole Miss took a beating, then dished one out on Saturday.

The Rebels gave up six runs in the fourth inning to lose game one of a doubleheader to William & Mary, 8-1, but bounced back to salvage a split and the series with a resounding 16-2 victory in game two at Swayze Field.

The Rebels pounded out 18 hits and scored in six different innings in the second game. Errol Robinson went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Leadoff hitter J.B. Woodman was 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, and Colby Bortles was 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Bortles hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

“We knew we were better than we played in the first game,” Woodman said. “It was definitely good to swing the bats and play well all-around in the second game.”

The Rebels broke things open in the third inning by batting around and scoring seven runs on eight hits. The rally included seven straight hits — six singles as well as a double to right by freshman second baseman Kyle Watson.

Ole Miss scored in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a four-spot in the seventh. Bortles provided the big hit in the seventh, a three-run home run to left for the Rebels’ first homer of the season.

Sophomore right-hander Brady Bramlett (1-0), making his first career weekend start after missing the end of the 2013 season and the entire 2014 season due to injury, picked up the win for the Rebels.

Bramlett worked a career-long six innings, giving up two runs on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts, one shy of tying another career high. He faced the minimum in four of his six innings of work.

“It was just great to be back and have a good outing after not playing last year,” Bramlett said “When the offense scores as many runs as they did, it’s easy to cruise out there a little bit.”

The game two rout was a welcome balm for Ole Miss after it was crushed in the first game.

William & Mary scored six runs in the fourth inning, with designated hitter Ryder Miconi providing the big blast with a three-run home run.

Tribe starter Nick Brown allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win.

The doubleheader concluded the three-game opening-weekend series. The finale had originally been scheduled for today, but was moved to Saturday because of the possibility of bad weather.
