Vicksburg may see freezing rain starting at 4 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

There is a 100 percent chance of rain tonight, with a north wind at 20–25 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph, but little or no ice accumulation is expected.

Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer said there could be some icing on the bridges tomorrow morning.

“The main threat is going to be tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday,” he said.

Elfer said Vicksburg is on the edge of the bad weather moving through the area.

“Tomorrow I don’t think it’s going to get very warm,” he said. “Tomorrow afternoon into Tuesday morning is what we really need to watch.”

Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Chad Shealy said schools are expected to be open in the morning.

“We might look at tomorrow afternoon’s activities and possibly delay some of those,” he said.

Local law enforcement are also gearing up for potential bad weather.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said people should check with their local media sources early before they leave for work and school.

“We have extra deputies on standby if we have to have extra people just to be cautious,” he said.

Vicksburg Police Department Chief Walter Armstrong said he encourages motorists who are going to be out to make sure they have a full tank of gas.

“So many times accidents happen, and traffic will back up,” he said. “If you don’t have a lot of fuel you could run out of gas just sitting there idling.”
