WC 6, Vicksburg 3
Kasy Cortezie, Megan Stewart and Katie Channell each drove in a run for Warren Central, which jumped out to a 6-0 lead and then held on to beat archrival Vicksburg.
Torey Daniels went 1-for-3 with a double and Olivia Oakes singled for Vicksburg. The Missy Gators scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning but left the bases loaded. The game was then halted by the tournament’s one-hour time limit.
St. Al 12, Vicksburg 0
Stephanie Schoonover allowed two hits and struck out three in four shutout innings as St. Aloysius routed Vicksburg in the opening game of the Lady Vikes Invitational.
Michelle Howington went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs for St. Al, while Jordan McDonald was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Breanna Knox and Kelsey Lockridge each had a hit for Vicksburg.
Brookhaven 5, St. Al 3
Schoonover drove in two runs for St. Al and Jordan McDonald went 2-for-3 with a run scored, but the Lady Flashes (2-2) squandered an early lead and lost in four innings to Brookhaven in the Lady Vikes Invitational.
Brookhaven scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and twice more in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
St. Al cut into the deficit with an RBI double by Avery Parman in the top of the fourth, and got the go-ahead run on base when McDonald singled to load the bases. Howington followed with a fly out to center, however, and the game was ended by the one-hour time limit.
WC 4, Loyd Star 3
The Lady Vikes overcame an early 3-0 deficit to steal a win away from Loyd Star in the final game of the Lady Vikes Invitational Saturday. Warren Central allowed three first-inning runs and struggled to generate much offensively until the fourth inning.
Lawren Boolos sparked the game-winning half-inning with a single advanced pinch runner April Lynn to third. Lynn went on to score on a wild pitch just moments later to give WC its first run of the game. Boolos scored on a single in the next at-bat to cut the deficit down to 3-2 before Ashley Coley ripped a single into the outfield to tie things up at three apiece.
With all of the momentum trending in Warren Central’s direction, Anaiyah Fultz stepped up to the plate and, on the first pitch, delivered a bouncing ground ball single in between the first and second basemen to plate the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run. Right after Fultz’s hit, umpires called the game due to time contraints. The Lady Vikes escaped with a 4-3 win to stay perfect in their own tournament and improve to 5-1 on the season.
