Two Vicksburg police investigators and a woman were injured in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday at Clay and Adams streets.
Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble and investigator Bobby Jones were involved in the crash with a woman driving a Kia Sorento. The name of the woman was not immediately released.
Witnesses said Kimble was headed east on Clay Street when his black Chevrolet Impala collided with the Kia that was southbound on Adams Street.
The Kia overturned and landed on its roof on Adams just south of Clay.
The woman, and both officers were taken from the scene by ambulances.
Jones, a witness said, appeared to be headed west on Clay Street when his tan Chevrolet Impala got caught up in the crash.
Former assistant district attorney Lane Campbell witnessed the accident but said a car came between him and the crash. He saw Jones’ Impala strike a crepe myrtle several yards from the initial crash site.
“I thought he was stopping traffic. I didn’t realize he had been hit until he hit the tree,” Campbell said.
The crash was under investigation Tuesday afternoon, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Trooper Craig Morton said.
Kimble is the assistant commander of the criminal investigations division. He was promoted to his current position last fall. In addition to his duties at VPD, Kimble is the Central District Constable and serves on the board of directors of the Mississippi Constables Association. He was appointed to the constable post in January 2014 after the death of Constable and VPD detective Randy Naylor Sr.
Jones has been with VPD since at least 2002, according to Vicksburg Post archives. He was a patrolman before moving into the investigations division.
