Zenon “Sonny” Sucharski Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Zenon “Sonny” Sucharski Sr., age 95, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at St. Michael Catholic Church.
He passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home.
The Funeral Mass will be conducted by his son, the Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maurice, La.
Visitation will be at St. Michael from 9 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass.
“Mr. Sonny” was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and was a resident of Vicksburg since 1966. He was a World War II veteran who served in Japan. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2572, Vicksburg.
In 1966, he and his family were founding members of St. Michael Catholic Church in Vicksburg. He was plant manager of US Rubber Reclaiming Co. in Buffalo, N.Y., and Vicksburg. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and held the title of grand knight. He was also a 4th Degree knight.
He was active in “Meals on Wheels,” in which he cooked for the elderly till the age of 89. He played “Santa Claus” for many years at a variety of children’s Christmas parties. He enjoyed cooking and being with people.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Postek of Buffalo, N.Y., and Cynthia Sucharski of Claremont Harbor, Fla.; two sons, the Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD, of Maurice, La., and Kenneth (Corrine) Sucharski of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and in Poland, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents in Poland, Marceli and Pelagia Sucharski; his wife, Florence (Kostinak) Sucharski; his son, Zenon Sucharski Jr.; daughter-in-law, Patricia Sucharski; son-in-law Leonard Postek; and his brothers and one sister, all in Poland.
The Family wishes to express thank you to Mr. Chad Sonnek, the Knights of Columbus, and Dr. Walter Johnston and the staff of Vicksburg Convalescent Home.
Burial will be at City Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 898/Vicksburg or The Society of the Divine Word in Bay St. Louis, MS.
The Knights of Columbus active 4th Degree will serve as honor guard over the proceedings and members of Council 898 will serve as active Pallbearers.
