Bernetha Mae Shy Killian

Bernetha Mae Shy Killian died Monday, March 9, 2015, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.

 

Mrs. Killian was born on March 6, 1931, to Ollie Shy and Minnie Leola Campbell. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir until 2014. She graduated from Bowman School.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Killian; brother, Robert H. Shy; two sons, Robert E. Shy and Issac Killian Jr.; grandson, Ruther “Peanut” Turner; granddaughter, Shannon Smith; and great-granddaughter, Starkeisha Smith.

 

She was a member of Christian Church Union No.1, Christian Home Society Nos. 15 & 24, Brother and Sister of Zion 1, and was a loyal member of the 4-H Club.

 

Survivors include one son, John Shy of Vicksburg; three daughters, Gwendolyn Patterson, Carolyn Tubbs and Mary Turner all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Bessie Jamison of Indianapolis and Odesta Campbell of Chicago; two brothers, James Kelly and Lewis Davis; 23 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. Roosevelt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

 

Visitation will be Friday 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
