Facing seemingly insurmountable odds Friday night, the Vicksburg Missy Gators rolled up their sleeves, went to work and got the job done.

The Missy Gators scored nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to complete a stunning comeback from an eight-run deficit, and beat Franklin County 12-10.

Bethany Martin had a two-run double in the sixth inning to give Vicksburg the lead for good.

Vicksburg trailed 9-1 in the fifth before scoring twice in that inning, and then nine times in the sixth to surge ahead.

“We settled down and started hitting good pitches hard through the infield and scored a lot of runs,” Vicksburg coach Brian Ellis said. “We settled down defensively and kept our heads up. It was a good win for us. The girls stayed positive throughout the game.”

Torey Daniels, Grace Bufkin and Kelsey Lockridge all had two hits apiece for the Missy Gators (3-7). Daniels and Bufkin drove in two runs apiece, and Lockridge had one RBI.

The Missy Gators will play four games next week, including the division opener Thursday at Pearl.

“It’s a nice win going into a busy week,” Ellis said.
