After jumping out to a big lead Tuesday, Warren Central went into a bit of a lull offensively.

Coach Dana McGivney was glad to see it only lasted a half-inning.

The Lady Vikes scored six runs in the first inning, then 10 more in the third, and blew out Terry 16-2.

Brooke Patterson went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs, and Coco Fultz hit a three-run inside-the-park home run. Darby Gain drove in three runs for the Lady Vikes (8-1) and Katie Channell knocked in two.

Gain, WC’s pitcher, also struck out seven in four innings to get the win.

“We’ll always take a win. There were a couple of times we had some lapses. We got too relaxed. But overall, it was a very good performance,” McGivney said.

Terry committed eight errors, including two in the first inning that helped stake Warren Central to a 6-0 lead.

After WC was held scoreless in the second inning, it picked up the pace in the third. It sent 14 batters to the plate, with Fultz’s home run on a sinking liner to center and Patterson’s three-run triple to the gap in left center the big blows.

“You just want to make sure you don’t fall asleep, don’t quit, be consistent and work hard every inning,” McGivney said.

The impressive win sent Warren Central into its division schedule on a high note. It’ll host hapless Greenville on Thursday, then host perennial power Clinton next Tuesday.

“We’re playing well, and that’s all you can ask,” McGivney said. “We’re trying to improve every game before (Clinton), then do the things we know how to do and take care of our own business and not worry about them.”

Bogue Chitto 4, St. Aloysius 1

Bogue Chitto jumped on St. Aloysius (4-5, 0-1 Division 7-1A) early, and used a strong pitching performance by Christian Black to make it stand up.

Black scattered four hits, only walked one, and struck out 11 to outduel St. Al’s Stephanie Schoonover.

Schoonover, a seventh-grader, only gave up one earned run in six innings. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Schoonvoer also drove in St. Al’s only run with a bunt single in the sixth inning.
