Flea market roster filling quickly

Three weeks before the annual Old Court House Spring Flea Market, vendor spaces are filling fast.
More than 100 vendors have already registered for the April 25 flea market, Old Court House Museum curator Bubba Bolm said.
“Food booths are already taken up,” Bolm said. “Cherry Street is filled up, and we’re filling up Jackson Street now.”
Though the roster is quickly filling up, vendor’s spaces are still available for $60 each. Applications for vendors are available at www.oldcourthouse.org or by calling 601-636-0741.
“There are still spots available and we welcome anyone who wants to join us,” Bolm said.
A wide variety of handmade and antique items will be available from vendors, Bolm said. Food includes traditional flea market fare — meat pies, barbeque, funnel cakes and other treats. The Old Court House Museum will also have a booth selling Civil War relics, gifts and photos of Vicksburg.
All proceeds from booth sales benefit the museum, which receives no state or federal funding.
“We’re not dependent on grants. We’re dependent on events like this to keep us going,” Bolm said.
As an additional fundraiser, the museum will be raffling off a handmade knife created by Billy Mangum.
For the past several years, the Flea Market has been set for the same weekend at RiverFest, but this year, the fundraiser will be the following Saturday.
“When we were setting up dates in December for the coming year, that’s the weekend we chose,” Bolm said. “All we try to do is avoid Easter weekend. We thought it would be a good time. It’s just a beautiful month in Vicksburg.”
