CLINTON — Warren Central didn’t have a spectacular day at the Division 4-6A track meet on Tuesday, but it did make some big leaps and clear a few hurdles.

Warren Central’s boys team sent a dozen athletes on to next week’s region meet, while the girls got some impressive performances from a few newcomers that provided hope for the future.

Both teams finished third in the team standings. Clinton won both team championships.

Ninth-grader Raven Thompson won the girls’ high jump and was second in the triple jump, while Chae White won the long jump. It was Thompson’s first varsity meet.

“I think we’ll be better next year, because we’ve got a lot of good ninth-graders moving up,” Lady Vikes coach Ricky Taylor said. “(Thompson) has been doing good with the ninth-grade team. That’s real good to come in here and do well in the field events. I think she’s got a chance to go far.”

In the boys’ meet, Miraculous Powers won the 110 meter hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles. The 4×200 relay team of Nick Caldwell, Jo’Vante Shorter, Dedrick Wilson and Lawrence Lewis also won. The same relay team finished second in the 4×100, and Garrett Melton was also second in the pole vault.
