A few days after taking a beating, Ole Miss dished one out.

The Rebels set a season-high for runs and racked up 21 hits as they hammered Central Arkansas 18-4 Tuesday night at Swayze Field.

J.B. Woodman homered and finished 4-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Ole Miss (21-20) scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and six more in the second to open a 14-2 lead.

The two-inning total matched what the Rebels gave up in a 14-0 loss to Auburn on Saturday.

“I thought we got good swing after good swing, and like they say, hitting is contagious,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said.

Every Rebel in the starting lineup had at least one hit, one run and one RBI. The feat was accomplished by the fifth inning, which is believed to be a first for the program.

Leadoff hitter Connor Cloyd had four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. All were personal bests.

Colby Bortles, Sikes Orvis and Henri Lartigue all had two hits apiece. Junior Cameron Dishon added his first triple of the season as the Rebels had five extra base hits.

For Central Arkansas (19-15), Matt Anderson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Southern Miss 9, La.-Monroe 3

Southern Miss (22-14-1) scored four runs in the sixth inning and five in the eighth to beat Louisiana-Monroe (20-20) on Tuesday night.

Connor Barron led off the sixth inning with a solo home run, his fifth of the season, and brought in another run in the eighth with a bases loaded walk.

“Connor’s home run kind of broke the ice for us,” Southern Miss coach Scott Berry said. “Up to that point, we really didn’t have very good at-bats, but Connor hit that ball really well and that got us going.”

Tim Lynch drove in a pair of runs, and Matt Durst was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Nathan Pugh hit a solo home run for Louisiana-Monroe.

Connor O’Brien, the third of six Southern Miss pitchers, worked 1 2/3 innings for the win. The Southern Miss pitching staff combined to allow six hits and two walks, and struck out nine.

LSU 6, Tulane 0

Nine LSU pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout as the Tigers (35-6) beat Tulane (24-16).

No LSU pitcher worked more than two innings. Austin Bain (1-1), the starter, threw the first two innings and was credited with the win. In all, the Tigers’ staff walked only two batters and struck out eight.

Chris Chinea hit a solo home run for LSU, Conner Hale went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Chris Sciambra drove in two runs.

Chinea led off the seventh inning with a home run to spark a four-run rally that put the game out of reach.

LSU will host a series against Texas A&M beginning Thursday in a showdown between the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the country.
