Vicksburg, Center Hill baseball rained out

By the end of today, win or lose, the Vicksburg Gators will at least be familiar with all of the landmarks on Interstate 55 between here and Memphis.

The Gators bussed up to Desoto County for Game 2 of their Class 5A play-in round series with Center Hill on Friday, only to have it rained out when they got there.

The game was rescheduled for tonight at 6 at Center Hill. All Warren County athletes are scheduled to take physicals this morning, so the Gators will face a long day as they try to keep their season alive.

Instead of spending the night, the team returned home to Vicksburg on Friday and will travel north again this afternoon.

Center Hill won Game 1 of the best-of-three series on Thursday night, 3-0.

If Vicksburg wins tonight, Game 3 will be Monday at Bazinsky Field.

Despite the heavy travel load, Vicksburg coach Derrick DeWald said he wasn’t worried about the effects it might have on his team.

“If we win (Saturday), they will come to us on Monday. We should be fine,” DeWald said from the bus.
