Despite losing Game 1 of their Class 5A playoff series with New Hope, the Vicksburg Missy Gators took some solace in the fact that they hung in and gave themselves a chance to win.

Game 2, however, never came close to playing out the same way.

New Hope scored in every inning it batted, and pitcher Brittni Beard allowed just one earned run as the Lady Trojans completed the sweep of Vicksburg with a 9-2 victory Tuesday at New Hope.

Alaysha Jennings was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for New Hope and Beard had two hits. Kaiya Palmer drove in three runs and Kerrington Jones two.

New Hope took a 4-0 lead in the third inning when Kelsey Gerhart tripled in a run and scored on a sacrifice fly. Palmer’s two-run single then keyed a three-run rally in the fourth inning that blew the game open.

Myers’ RBI double in the sixth inning brought in the Missy Gators’ first run, and Brianna Knox stole home with two outs in the seventh inning to make it 9-2.
