Eugene ‘Gene’ Nowell

Eugene “Gene” Nowell died at his home Monday, April 27, 2015. He was 59.

Born in Vicksburg, he attended Redwood High School. He was a towboat captain with 39 years of service. At the time of his death he was employed with Yazoo River Towing Company.

He was a loving spouse, son, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Nowell was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, C. R. Nowell Sr.; two daughters, Tracey Stone and Heather Logan; two sisters, Catheline Mae Nowell and Ruby Lee Wilson; and one brother, Luther Lewis Nowell.

He is survived by his spouse, Cindy; mother, Mary Lee Nowell; children, LaTonya Emrick, Jennifer Nowell, Ronada Nowell, April Stone, Holly Hodge, Kelly Cooper, Trent Logan, Christy Logan, Eric Logan, Evan Logan, Jadyn Stone and Brooklyn Logan; 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Irene Harper (Robert) and Betty Marshall Toten (Pete) and three brothers, Rufus Dan Nowell (Teresa), Commie Rubin Nowell Jr., and James Earl Nowell Sr.

Services will be 11 am Friday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to favorite charities.

Pallbearers will be C. R. Nowell Jr., James Nowell Sr., Jamie Nowell, Daniel Cooper, Trent Logan, Eric Logan, Evan Logan and Mark Long.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Keavy Lyons, Tony Nowell, Rufus Nowell, Patrick Smith, J. O. Smith II, Rusty Blackwell, Benny Bedgood, Cedric Stone and Alan LaGrone.
